Time to go back in time. While I am no fan whatsoever of Communism, I am no fan whatsoever of this brand of capitalism. An Il Papa was heard to say: “two sides of the same coin, communism and capitalism.” Visions of paradise again, now that Castro is out of the way? Oh well, Viva Las Vegas though.
The Jew Meyer Lansky, founder and leader of the Empire of Havana, architect of the political relations between general Batista and the North American Mafia, from 1934, with his secret passions and revelations, which include the coup d’etat that took general Batista to the presidential chair in March of 1952.
Meyer Lansky organized a colossal empire in Havana, which included the most important world-wide center at that time, for the laundering of illegal money from the United States; the processing of the diamonds and gold coming from the United States contraband; and a network of luxurious casinos, famous hotels, cabarets and restaurants; with a connection between the finances and criminal activities; but mainly, the juicy business of cocaine in Havana, which was directed also to the corruption of the North American society, in the succulent metropolis North Americans tourists liked to visit. Many of these tourists were brought to Havana as guests; they came with all expenses covered: transportation, hotels, meals and beverage, invited by some celebrity or star to enjoy great parties. That was the main use of Havana for George Raft, who used to bring guests to Capri Hotel to offer them cocaine, sex, and gambling. Everything organized and controlled.
1.) How does what Meyer Lansky’s activities in Havana discredit capitalism?
2.) Is there some third alternative to capitalism and socialism? Please enlighten me. And no quotes from Popes or Buddhist leaders. Or rock lyrics. You know those will instantly discredit you in your quest to have something of substance to say.
No, there are no alternatives, but greys between each extreme. Liberty must reign supreme. Oh, no quotes now from religious leaders here and throughout history? Or any art (not just defined by rock lyrics which can be poetry) either? Those are alternatives and certainly mitigate the materialism that makes us have to be either black or white, capitalist or socialist. I hate communism because it ignores human freedom. I hate capitalism because it can be and often is depraved and predatory. Two halves of the same coin. Look within, then go without. You won’t be able to do so without compassion, which will continue to grow, day by day. It’s not easy. Nothing worth doing rarely ever is, like sex, cocaine and gambling. If you insist on no quotations from artists and religious figures, well, I wonder what our foundations are here.
And how do these “greys in between each extreme” work? How do you have economic freedom with curbs on it? Isn’t that sort of llike being a little bit pregnant?
Plus, you are obviously not reading my comments very. I said rock lyrics, not “any art.” And it’s not some kind of rule. It’s just an attempt to help you have some credibility and make some sense.
Gee thanks professor. Rock lyrics can be poetry, even if the music sucks. Now you will define art for us too? How ’bout some of your WC Handy lyrics–one of your Greatest Americans? (No, I won’t reproduce them here.) OK, define the parameters of the art, and, while we’re at it, the spiritual themes, that are marks of credibility and sense. If I didn’t blog here you’d be alone in your own foment you know. Be nice!
