This thing is awful

As John Boehner said about the House FHers’ ”stimulus” package, “Oh, my God. I can’t tell you how shocked we are.”

Powerline has Boehner’s list of key facts about the bill.

Now we’ll see whether TCM has a lick of sense and / or any spine.  Who knows?  Maybe this kind of legislation is exactly his cup of tea.

–$6 billion for colleges/universities – many which have billion dollar endowments.

The University of Illinois has taken a $400 million hit to its endowment, a loss that university officials hope to be able to ride out until the economy improves. The fund sat at about $1.4 billion in June. Since then, it has lost nearly 30 percent of its value, U. of I. officials say. And that’s just one college.

Is that a pressing need that a current stimulus ought to address, though? With our tax dollars?

Hey, we’re waxin’ Keynesian here, that’s all. Evidently that is what the preponderance of the electorate wants. Well, John Q. Public wants a quick fix with no pain, what else is new? So far, all I’ve seen is more money thrown down the dark hole. Better get in line for a hand out of sorts, or get left further behind seems to be the zeitgeist.

And does this zeitgeist make any sense to you? Does it seem right to you?

The article says this mess is unprecedented. What hasn’t seemed right to me is the rampant materialism that brought us to this juncture. I do not see that changing any either. Hopefully through the pain we will ultimately gain. It is going to get much worse before it gets better. And the lack of trust in our “successful” leadership is as seriously lacking as I have evefr seen it in my half century plus on this planet. This is supposedly one nation under God. And the apostles creed of Christianity posits one holy and “universal” church. Not so, not so at all. The most I can think to do is not think, and go within to go without. Something about saving all sentient beings, but first we gotta save ourselves.
