Beyond patty-cake

The Freedom-Hater State Department is drafting a letter to Iran’s Supreme Ayatollah assuring him that the US does not seek to overthrow his regime.

And so millions of Iranian people are consigned to indefinite totalitarianism.  And so the Iranian nuke program gets another boost.

    Giving them enough rope to hang themselves? You know they still won’t trust us. Why couldn’t Bush get ‘er done? You know Cheney wanted to quash them like little bugs.

    Well, let’s see; so the momentum on the world stage again shifts toward greater freedom? So we don’t have to worry about an additional nuclear threat in this world? So the strategic balance in the middle east shifts away from terrorist intimidation? So we stand as champions of women’s rights?

    It’s not like the thing to do is to draw up plans to go in there and topple them like we did Saddam. The main point is to be on record as regarding their regime as illegitimate, and also do whatever we can to foster internal conditions that could lead to internal toppling.

    It appears that we are going to try to be reasonable gentlepersons and it of course goes without saying that we carry a big stick. That is my take on their approach. Again, enough rope to hang themselves.

    I kept telling my wife that even I am smarter and more learned than he is. Grandma taught me you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar, though. I think even Bush realized this after the stunning Congressional defeats of ‘06. Oh, the wife, she said, “Maybe so.”
