“While there are many aspects of President Reagan’s legacy we might reflect on today, I’d like to take the opportunity to discuss just one of them: his dream of a world free of nuclear weapons.” –John McCain R. AZ, yesterday, celebrating the unveiling in the Capitol of a statue of Ronald Reagan
Please explain how Ronnie’s world free of nuclear weapons is somehow less “cruddy.”
Because he was committed to defeating our enemies first. The Cold War began to end when he looked Stain-Head in the eye and said, “The Pershings stay.”
So you think we’re going to dismantle ours first as a gesture of good will or something? Not gonna happen. We are still negotiating from a position of huge relative strength. And I like that. Great position to be in as a negotiator.
Well, there are some parties with whom negotiation is a downright stupid idea. North Korea, Iran and Syria come to mind. And any negotiations we undertake with Russia ought to be framed by our understanding that the Putin-Medvedev regime is less than earnest in its expressions of a less-nuclear world.

You are not alone in your understanding here.
